We Participated in the 7th International Resilience Congress as the RESMAR Project Team 17 October 2025
The RESMAR Project team participated as speakers in the panel titled "Resilience and Business Continuity" organized within the scope of the 7th International Resilience Congress. In the panel, moderated by Gökhan YILMAZ, Head of the Marmara Disaster Risk Reduction Department, the February 6 earthquakes were examined from a resilience and business continuity perspective, with a focus on the goals of the RESMAR Project conducted by the Disaster and Emergency Management Presidency (AFAD) and its role in industry.
Prof. Dr. İbrahim Akgün, Başkent University Faculty Member and Project Team Leader; Mehmet Fatih Şen, Head of the AFAD Technological Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group; Murat Açıkgöz, Department Head at the Ministry of Industry and Technology; Kemal Baltepe, Tuzla Chemical Industrialists OIZ Regional Manager; Çağrı Akpınar, Deputy General Manager of Türkiye Sigorta; and Abbas Sami Pirinççi, Elazığ Organized Industrial Zone Board Member, participated as panelists.
RESMAR Project Team Leader Prof. Dr. İbrahim Akgün highlighted the strategic significance of the concept of resilience for Türkiye. Emphasizing the importance of the public-private sector cooperation model in his speech, Akgün conveyed the innovations, opportunities, and challenges brought by the RESMAR Project in this field to the participants from an academic perspective.
Mehmet Fatih Şen from the AFAD Project Team detailed the risk reduction and resilience studies conducted by AFAD, especially in the context of technological disasters. Şen shared the needs that gave rise to the RESMAR Project, the expected concrete outcomes from the project, and AFAD's vision for its sustainability.
The panel concluded with the message that establishing a disaster-resilient industrial infrastructure is a strategic necessity for Türkiye's future.
