Hybrid Information/Evaluation Meeting Held with Tuzla Chemical Industrialists OIZ (KOSB) Before the First Study Visit to the Marmara Region 16 May 2025

On May 12, 2025, a hybrid meeting was held with the participation of Mr. Gökhan Yılmaz, Head of the Marmara Disaster Risk Reduction Department, and Prof. Dr. Haluk Özener, Istanbul Provincial Director of Disaster and Emergency, along with representatives from the Tuzla Chemical Industrialists Organized Industrial Zone (KOSB) and other stakeholders, within the scope of the RESMAR Project. At the meeting, a situation assessment was made based on both the legal framework and best practice examples, and the details of the first study visit to Tuzla Chemical Industrialists OIZ, to be held on May 28-29, 2025, were finalized. In addition to clarifying the details of the first study visit, the meeting, which was for informational/evaluation purposes, also addressed topics aimed at making industrial organizations more resilient to disasters, accompanied by expert presentations.

Under the information heading of the meeting, the focus was on:

  • The long-term effects of climate change on industrial enterprises,
  • Strategic measures that can be taken within the framework of business continuity management,
  • The effects of natural disasters such as earthquakes, floods, and landslides, as well as technological risks like fire, explosions, and toxic releases,
  • Legislation topics regarding major industrial accidents in OIZs.

At the end of the meeting, the importance of inter-institutional cooperation and data sharing to reduce disaster risks in OIZs was emphasized.

The RESMAR Project continues to be an important guide on the path to making industrial facilities in the Marmara Region resilient to disasters. Although we have focused our work on the OIZs in the Marmara Region within the scope of the RESMAR Project, our ultimate goal is to reach all OIZs. Our priority is the Marmara Region; our goal is all of Türkiye.
