Tuzla Chemical Industrialists OIZ Site Visit Conducted within the Scope of the RESMAR Project 1 June 2025
A two-day site visit to the Tuzla Chemical Industrialists Organized Industrial Zone was successfully conducted on May 28-29, 2025, within the scope of the RESMAR Project.
In the field study, which aimed to increase the disaster resilience of Organized Industrial Zones, comprehensive evaluations were made on the topics of business continuity, infrastructure capacity, disaster management, and risk analysis with the participation of OIZ administrations, the Ministry of Industry and Technology, OSBÜK, Chambers of Industry and Commerce, and technical expert teams.
The first day of the visit began with opening speeches by Mr. M. Kemal Baltepe, Tuzla Chemical Industrialists OIZ Regional Manager, and Mr. Mehmet Fatih Şen, Head of the Technological Disaster Risk Reduction Working Group. Following this, the project team shared the purpose and methodology of the site visit. In the workshop sessions led by Prof. Dr. İbrahim Akgün, the focus was on business continuity policy documents and business impact analysis.
The OIZ administration provided detailed information on the institution's current risk management approach, critical services, and structural capacity. Furthermore, through field observations conducted by the project team and OIZ representatives, infrastructure and superstructure elements were examined on-site, and the resilience of critical services under potential disaster scenarios was evaluated.
During the two-day visit:
- Infrastructure and superstructure elements were evaluated,
- Critical services were analyzed,
- Climate change, natural, and technological disaster risks were addressed through thematic workshops.
Mr. Gökhan Yılmaz, Head of the AFAD Marmara Disaster Risk Reduction Department, emphasized that this study was the first field application within the scope of the RESMAR Project, stating that the gains achieved at Tuzla OIZ will form the basis for applicable best practices for other OIZs.
With this comprehensive field study, significant data was obtained on how the industrial sector can be made more prepared at the institutional and technical levels against disaster risks. At the same time, a strong example of multi-stakeholder cooperation was demonstrated.
We continue to support resilience in Organized Industrial Zones and contribute to sustainable development goals.
Our priority is the Marmara Region; our goal is all of Türkiye.
